Thank You from Miocean
Thanks to the generous support of its contributors, Orange County nonprofit Miocean raised nearly $500,000 at its annual Blue 42 Celebration on June 11, 2010. The event, which is named for - and directly benefits - Orange County’s beautiful 42-mile coastline, also honored James A. Kelly, senior vice president of Southern California Edison, for his role in protecting the local watersheds.
More than 400 guests attended the Blue 42 Celebration, vying for coveted auction items, including a 2010 MINI Cooper, donated by Irvine MINI/Irvine BMW; customized surf and paddle boards created by surf artisans Ron House and Drew Brophy; an opportunity to walk the red carpet during a Hollywood movie premier; and a rare Color Fusion painting by artist and philanthropist Dick Marconi. Presenting sponsors for the event included Ketel One Vodka; St. Regis Resort-Monarch Beach; the RC Baker Foundation, and Southern California Edison. Entertainment was provided by the hit band, The English Beat.
Miocean board chairman Patrick R. Fuscoe, P.E., announced that Miocean had recently completed its 7th coastal water quality improvement projects and was now supporting 13 educational programs. As a result, Fuscoe said, Miocean was helping stop millions of gallons of polluted runoff and tons of litter and debris from reaching Orange County’s shoreline, and teaching thousands of local students about the importance of protecting their local watersheds.
